Sadly there are no services in the Parish Church because of the devastating fire on 3rd December, 2020. This will be the case for the foreseeable future. However the Church is more than the building and services will continue at our sister churches in our benefice at Kirk Langley and Mugginton. For details of those services, please click on the What's on tab above and the Calendar link.
The Parochial Church Council (PCC) is committed to re-building the church so that it will look the same from the outside but the inside will be re-built so that it is more suitable for worship and Community use in the 21st Century.
About the church
The church itself can be traced back to the early 12th century. The present building was largely built in the 14th and 15th centuries, with additions in the 19th century. Derbyshire alabaster featured prominently in the interior decoration before the fire.
The reredos of alabaster and semi-precious stone is mentioned in many church guide books, as is the altar rail and alabaster lectern unfortunately the majority of this was destroyed in the fire. The church is set in picturesque, peaceful countryside. It is surrounded by fields on all four sides, yet is only minutes away from the bustle of the city centre. The beauty of the church and its setting makes it an extremely popular venue for weddings.
